I’ve gone by “DJ Manik” since 1997. My college roommate sold me on the name as we were eating pizza, walking to class one day. It fit my hyperactive personality so I decided to roll with it. But in all honesty, I’ve never been too crazy about the name. The older I get the more I realize that monikers just aren’t my thing and I no longer feel comfortable introducing myself as Manik.
Even the acronym, “DJ”, has lost its appeal to me, as drones of undeserving people self-anoint themselves with the credential everyday. With that being said, I am officially retiring the name, “DJ Manik”, and continuing my career as plain ole’, “Patrice McBride”.
I don’t want to confuse folks so over the next few months I’ll be gradually transitioning away from the name, using stuff like, “Patrice McBride, formerly known as DJ Manik”. I know, corny, but what are ya gonna do?
I’m releasing my debut solo project under my government this fall, and it’ll contain references to my late moniker. After that it’s a wrap for “DJ Manik”, I’m turning the page.
